The Biggest AV Trends We Loved at CEDIA 2019
From AV upgrades to smart home automation for wellness, the future of technology is here
The year is winding down, and a brand new decade is just around the corner. That means a lot is about to change; fashion, music preferences, and -- perhaps most important of all -- technology. The twenty-teens were an incredible decade for advancements in smart home automation and audio-video systems, and things won’t slow down in the roaring ’20s. With that in mind, CEDIA 2019 (the biggest tech and automation show of the year) had a lot to showcase. Here, we’ll take a look at some of the coolest technologies you can enjoy in your Rancho Santa Fe, CA property next year. Keep reading for more.

The 8K Revolution
First, there was HD, then 4K Ultra HD, and now it’s time to get ready for 8K -- the latest advancement in video display resolution. Similar to the way UHD improved on 1080p, 8K offers roughly four times the pixel density of 4K displays.
So, why should you care? The fact is, 4K Ultra HD will still provide a high-quality image in your home theater or media room. You can sit as close as five feet away without seeing any deterioration in the picture. However, with 8K, you can enjoy a larger-format display and wider viewing angle, which helps recreate the fully immersive experience of a commercial movie theater.
For instance, Sony showcased its massive 98-inch Master Series Z9G 8K LCD TV. The HDR smart display uses an Android OS and Sony’s exclusive X1 Ultimate processor to deliver simple navigation and incredible color detail. Plus, the full-array LED means the picture will be incredibly bright but will also deliver the deep blacks and super-high contrast that will give any content a three-dimensional feel.
Smart Home Wellness
One of the biggest trends impacting the smart home market this year and in the coming months is wellness technology. From lighting that responds like the sun to home theater retreats, your system will soon have positive effects on your health as well as enhancing convenience and security.
Lutron’s recent acquisition of Ketra has accelerated the latest feature in smart lighting, tunable lighting control. Tunable means the lights will automatically adjust their color-temperature to reflect your natural circadian rhythms throughout the day. They help you stay active during the day and enjoy a more restful night.
At the CEDIA expo, some manufacturers even had wellness-inspired home theaters on display. Visitors could enter the custom space and experience immersive audio, video walls, and comfortable seating that entirely transported them away from the outside world.
